Graham Hospital's Laboratory is certified by the College of American Pathologists
(CAP) and provides services for inpatients, outpatients, and
the specialized needs of nursing homes and medical clinics. The
Laboratory staff consists of highly trained individuals including
board-certified pathologists, medical technologists, histotechnicians,
and certified phlebotomists. The Laboratory offers services
in the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Urinalysis,
Coagulation, Transfusion Medicine, and Histiologic preparation
and staining of tissue specimens for pathology examination.
Not only does the Laboratory offer services
in clinical and anatomical pathology, but services are provided
for EEG studies (Electroencephalagram to study brain wave patterns
and to be interpreted by an off-site neurologist), EKG tracings
(electrocardiogram to study heart tracings and to be interpreted
by on-site physicians), and stress testing (both exercise and
drug induced stress testing to be performed and to be interpreted
by Heartcare Midwest cardiologists from Peoria, Illinois). Thirty-day
event scanning and twenty-four hour holter monitors are utilized
to monitor any abnormalities in heart function as well.
The Graham Hospital Laboratory staff
perform many of the laboratory tests on site. However,
if the lab is unable to perform a particular test, the test
may be performed off site in one of our accredited reference
laboratories.
Drug screen testing is offered to clients
for random drug testing, probationary purposes, or Department
of Transportation accounts. Special accounts for drug screen
testing may be established through GrahamHospital if a business wishes to screen new employees as a routine
hiring practice.
Graham Hospital Laboratory is very proud of its accreditation
through CAP (College of American Pathologists). An extensive and
rigorous inspection conducted by CAP ensures that all necessary
guidelines are being followed by the hospital Laboratory. To maintain
an accredited status with CAP, the Laboratory must adhere to regulations
governing quality assurance, credentialing of staff, and competency
of staff through continuing education and competency testing. Another
regulatory body, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration),
also ensures that safety guidelines are being addressed by the
entire hospital facility. The Laboratory at Graham Hospital is
very fortunate to have a medical technologist on staff who serves
in the capacity of Laboratory Safety Officer. The Safety Officer
not only maintains a constant, ongoing knowledge of up-to-date
safety regulations, but also strives for the safest environment
for Laboratory staff and patients.
Our Laboratory is staffed all week,
with 24 hour coverage by medical technologists. If you have
any questions or concerns regarding tests or scheduling of tests,
please call 309-647-5240, ext. 2245.
